Volodymyr Lytvyn: Interparliamentary Liaison between Ukraine and Macedonia should become Effective
Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, met Nikola Gruevski, Prime Minister of the Republic of Macedonia.
V.Lytvyn declared that Ukraine considered Macedonia as a reliable partner in the Balkan region, and was willing to support political dialogue and extend cooperation in the economic and humanitarian sectors.
The Head of the Parliament hopes for strengthening the interparliamentary liaison. He stressed, "Cooperation between the friendship groups, committees, parties and parliaments should be fostered." "Interparliamentary liaison should become effective," he admitted.
V.Lytvyn recommends that Ukraine should study the experience of Macedonia in the harmonization of legislation with the European standards.
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Macedonia expressed his contentment "with the relations with Ukraine, the spirit of trust and cooperation in the areas of mutual interest." He highly appreciated the regional and the global role of Ukraine as an independent country. N. Gruevski stated, "Our relations in the economic sector could be extended." He expects that his visit will give impetus to the development of relations.
He informed that cancellation of visa regime between Ukraine and Macedonia was being discussed. "We see Ukraine as our friend who will always assist us," he underscored.
N. Gruevski agreed with the Head of the Ukrainian Parliament with the necessity "to overcome stagnation in the interparliamentary liaison connected with the political situation in the countries." On behalf of Trajko Veljanoski, Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia, N. Gruevski invited V.Lytvyn to visit Macedonia.
The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine highly appreciated the visit of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Macedonia to Ukraine, when the legal issues, the matters of standardization and the environment were discussed, and meetings with the businesspeople were held. He agreed that trade-economic relations could be considerably improved. He also laid emphasis on the great capacity for cooperation in the humanitarian sector. According to V.Lytvyn, Kyiv Taras Shevchenko National University is ready to cooperate.
V.Lytvyn declared, "Communication between the young people as the most active part of the population is essential."
The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expressed his gratitude to N. Gruevski for commemorating the memory of Taras Shevchenko, a prominent national poet, and for the invitation to visit the Republic of Macedonia.
